| VILs to tour Ten Chimneys

The VILs and their friends will depart from First United at
9:00 a.m. to travel to Genesee Depot on Thursday, September 18,
to see Ten Chimneys, the newly restored estate of theatrical legends,
Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne. The tour of their rural retreat features
treasures of antiques and decorative arts, most of which are unchanged
since the Lunts first collected them in the 1930s and 40s.
The cost will be $60 and will include transportation, gratuity for
the driver, a guided tour of the estate, and lunch at the Union
House, a landmark hotel established in 1861. The tour is filled
at the present time, but if you are interested in going, there is
a waiting list in case someone’s plans change.
We’ve received word from Jean Craney’s sister who toured
Ten Chimneys last week. She found the tour most interesting, and
she enjoyed the meal at the Union House. She also shared with us
several helpful hints. Before the tour, we will be asked to store
our purses or bags in a locker. Also, please wear comfortable shoes.
The tour includes flagstone walking paths and quite a few stairs
in the house.

October 28: Tour
of Maywood and presentation of a “Drop of Life” by Dave
Kuckuck.
Plan to meet at church around 10:00 a.m. to carpool to Maywood at
10:15 am. Joe McKillips will give us a walking tour of the grounds,
so wear your walking shoes. We will enjoy a lunch of sub sandwiches
with dessert at Maywood. Then, Dave will share the slides of his
kayaking trip with us. The cost of the outing is $6. This will cover
the food expenses and also allow us to make a contribution to Maywood.

November 17: Harvest
Dinner at City Streets
We are cordially invited to the VIL Harvest Dinner on Monday, November
17. Please gather by noon at City Streets Riverside, where we’ll
enjoy a delicious meal that Bill and Pam Gottsacker will prepare
for us. After our meal, we will enjoy musical entertainment. The
cost will probably be around $10.00.
