Worship
Worship
is a vital component of our community of faith. It is the time in
which we come to give God thanks and praise and are nourished through
Word and Sacrament. Worship is the time when God and the children
of God meet, especially in the breaking of the bread and sharing
of the cup. It is at the Table of our Lord that the gifts of God
are given to the people of God.
Worship at First United calls for all people to participate
in singing, listening, praying, and responding to the Word of God.
Worship opportunities take place each Sunday morning
throughout the year. Additionally, Thursday evening worship is offered
in the summer, and on Wednesday mornings and evenings during Lent.
Sunday morning service incorporates both the traditional
order of worship, as found in the Lutheran Book of Worship, and
the contemporary "Feast and Celebration" liturgy from
the Hymnal Supplement and the contemporary liturgy and hymns from
With One Voice. A contemporary service, "The Electric Gospel,"
written by members of our congregation, is offered periodically.
Children's
Time gives a special message to the young members of our congregation
during the worship service. Children's Time Plus allows children
through second grade the opportunity to participate in a special
age-appropriate, supervised activity during the sermon, after which
the children return to their parents. Childcare is also available
during each of the worship services and during Education Hour for
children age three and younger.
